The New Haven Induction Program emerged from the work and experience gained during the California New Teacher Project (CNTP) in 1988. In 1993, the work started with the CNTP and continued with the Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment Program (BTSA). The current program is based on learning gained over the last 26 years of beginning teacher support and assessment and is designed to provide beginning teachers with a job-embedded sequenced two-year program that prepares them to teach all students to meet and exceed the state-adopted academic content standards. The induction program is based on a support and assessment model that has been in place since 1993.

Any teacher with a preliminary credential is eligible to be enrolled in the New Haven Induction Program.

The mission of the New Haven Induction Program is to provide students with teachers who:

  • reflect on their practice,
  • collaborate with others,
  • seek opportunities to grow professionally, and
  • lead balanced lives
  • to make it possible for students to receive positive, challenging learning experiences that will enable them to meet and exceed content standards.

Within the New Haven Induction Program, candidates experience:

  • a two-year, individualized, job-embedded system of mentoring, support and professional learning which begins their first year of teaching with a preliminary credential
  • a credential, grade level or subject alike mentor(s) assigned within the first 30 days of enrollment in the program
  • an average of an hour per week of individualized support coordinated or provided by the mentor(s)
  • goals developed through an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) within 60 days of enrollment
  • an ILP that is designed for professional growth and development and not for evaluation purposes
  • an Early Completion Option (ECO) if a candidate is qualified and desires an accelerated program

At any time during participation in the New Haven Induction Program, if participants have a concern or complaint, a clearly defined grievance process is in place for them to receive assistance in bringing about a change in circumstances.  Further details about the grievance process can be found within the Induction Handbook.

  2. When the hiring principal is ready to interview, applicants will be considered and may be selected to interview.
  3. If selected to interview, you will be contacted by the school to set an appointment.
  4. Once you have interviewed, if you are selected for the position, you will be contacted by the personnel department. If you are not selected for the position, you will be notified by the school.
